Not a "stack." My go to examples are Barrowmaze and Stonehell -- both are intensely thought out mega-dungeons with nary a scrap of boxed text.

I'm finding more and more that it's a hindrance to running an adventure -- I'd rather have a one-line entry with the monster, lighting, traps, treasure and other conditions and give the players my own description on the fly. Use boxed text for canned BBEG speeches, descriptions of special treasures and the like.

Paul Wolfehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15911441450012146207noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1801483473113363785.post-76130723556037761282013-08-16T11:10:02.101-04:002013-08-16T11:10:02.101-04:00If you've read any of my adventures, you know ...If you've read any of my adventures, you know that I generally think boxed text is beneficial. I don't think that they are a poor means, overall, although I would certainly say that, for some (but not all) GMs, other means are far better.ravencrowkinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09315630554847698555noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1801483473113363785.post-17936893382315429162013-08-16T11:08:32.860-04:002013-08-16T11:08:32.860-04:00I don't know yet, but your comment inspires me...I don't know yet, but your comment inspires me to consider publication.ravencrowkinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09315630554847698555noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1801483473113363785.post-24703756691759892272013-08-15T20:19:09.159-04:002013-08-15T20:19:09.159-04:00Boxed texts, in spite of their signalling static a...Boxed texts, in spite of their signalling static areas, are actually a means of telling the GM what elements of a given area are perceptible to the PCs and to what degree this reveals said elements' actual function (i.e. whether they are traps, contain hidden treasure, are themselves valuable, etc.). A poor means of doing so, nevertheless.Ynas Midgardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14972628887096890642noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1801483473113363785.post-71561551135908427352013-08-15T14:19:53.510-04:002013-08-15T14:19:53.510-04:00Are you making the megadungeon for peronal use, or...Are you making the megadungeon for peronal use, or will you publish it in the future (I'd buy :p)?

Is the Lost World going to be an island, or remote/hard to reach part of you world?Hex Oxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03503933564866959945noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1801483473113363785.post-55858757135568988072013-08-12T13:53:06.108-04:002013-08-12T13:53:06.108-04:00Don't forget that Farmer is a lot more than Wo...Don't forget that Farmer is a lot more than World of Tiers. The Hadon of Ancient Opar series actually ties in strongly with Edgar Rice Burroughs (and H. Rider Haggard), for instance.

Even within the WoT series, there is a faux Barsoom, and Kickaha calls himself Tarzan (although not explicitly) on one level. The giant eagles, the carnivorous centaurs, etc., are all easily exported ideas from WoT. Of course, ERB also had carnivorous centaurs on the moon.....ravencrowkinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09315630554847698555noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1801483473113363785.post-60336821182974386852013-08-12T13:25:10.483-04:002013-08-12T13:25:10.483-04:00Interesting concept, I've always used similar ...Interesting concept, I've always used similar methods when exploring multiverse based campaigns. Borrowing from classic authors, often with minor cosmetic changes makes it easy for a GM to create on his feet. I think natural link to Andre Norton would be her Starman's Son or Beastmaster style stories, rather than High Halleck or Witch World stories which would seem to connect better with level three.

Farmer? I find him most useful as the method for transference. World of Tiers will always be one of the Ur texts for those using multiple worlds.Gort's Friendhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08684913847135419951noreply@blogger.com
